Cheers

Cheers, originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

I used the anteater in my Anteater Paradise logo in a watercolor. I really enjoyed doing this piece, watercolor is very fun to work with.

Done with watercolor and ink.

The Piemaker

The Piemaker, originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

Lee Pace as Ned the Piemaker from Pushing Daisies. Acrylic.

This was a real challenge for me, as I haven't painted in acrylics in about a year. The skin tones were hard to wrap my head around, but I think this piece made me push my flat and graphic style a bit more.

I Spy (1965-68)

I Spy (1965-68), originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

Bill Cosby as Alexander Scott, and Robert Culp as Kelly Robinson in the 1965-1968 spy series, I Spy. 8-9 hours in Adobe Illustrator.

The contents of the Monster Backpack.

Monster Backpack

For Illustration Methods, we were told to create either a backpack and stationary, a beach set, or a dinnerware set. I chose to do a Jim Henson-esque backpack. The zipper mouth allows the head to flop back, allowing full access to the contents inside. The zipper on the forehead stores the Brain Planner. It's a sturdy, plush backpack, allowing the straps to come off for the kid to be able to sleep with it, or play with it.

Anteater Paradise Site Entrance Logo

I make music (kind of), under the name Anteater Paradise. My final for Web Design is to make a site. It's rather simple, for I make simple music.

Coca Cola Poster

Coca Cola Poster, originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

A project for Digital Design and Type, we had to make a poster with only 3 colors. In Adobe InDesign, white is the absence of color, so I got away with only using 2 colors (Red and Black).

Done mostly in Illustrator, put together in InDesign.

Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival Poster

First project for this semester's Illustration Methods class. This was a bit of fun, as I printed out some Blues and Jazz notesheets, and then pasted them down to the Illustration board, and painted over them. And then most of the rest was completed in Illustrator.

Ones

I don't have a name for these guys either. I'm a fan of the Easter Island statues, and I wanted to incorporate the long nose portion into something. And tiny robed men with long staffs and tall masks is appealing. I need to come up with different angles for all of these beings.

Kremlins

Kremlins, originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

I like the name Kremlins, and the idea of tiny little electronic beings running around in machinery attempting to improve and/or fix it.

The other race I don't have a name for yet, but I really like the general idea of it. I need to design a female version. I'm making a maquette of a male head for a class.

Sculpt 01

Sculpt 01, originally uploaded by ErikRussell.

I just started on this, and have maybe put an hour into it or so. I have a couple of weeks to work on this, as well as my diving suit thing, which I'm sculpting as well. Haven't started on that yet though.

Diving Suit

I did this sketch at some point, and didn't pay much attention to it. But now I am taking Dimensional Illustration, a sculpting class of a sort, and decided to make a sculpey figure of it. I am also doing a maquette of another drawing I did for an alien thing. I should scan those and post them, but they're very rough. This one is very rough, and I attempted to ink it as well, but gave up as it began to look ugly.

Wendigo Progress

Getting close to finishing! Cleaning up the model now, going to work on the texture over the weekend. Animation lab got it's Cintiqs last week, so working will be a bit faster than just working off a tablet. I'm pleased with how this is turning out, hopefully the texture is what will make this really awesome!

Going to try to make him as creepy as hell! :D

Tree Sprites WIP

I'm currently taking Computer Animation 1 for my Animation minor, and I am learning what I am most interested in and passionate about in video games: texturing and modeling.

I've taken a creation of mine, a Tree Sprite, and have modeled it for our assignment "Old and New". The tree with the leaves is the new, the greyed one is old.

This was something I modeled out of my head for the first time off of paper, and not being just a load of geometric shapes. I will say the hardest part of this project was attempting to get the textures I made to properly fit the models.

I have a long way to go before I can make professional looking character models, but I am really pleased with how this turned out.

Me?

Haven't really drawn all summer, so I started off trying to draw some Victorian era doctor that ended up looking like me. :P

Scuba Suits

I was given a Scuba Suit a few months ago (and it's awesome to use), which I used as the basis of our final project, which was open ended. I designed scuba suits based off marine life suited to the temperatures they were to be used for.

Old Spice Mailer

Meant to be folded up, this was a mailer ad meant to be mailed out with samples of Old Spice scents.
